As the Fourth of July approaches, TFI would like to share some vital information about firework safety, as it is crucial to prioritize firework safety to ensure a fun and injury-free celebration.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, burns account for 44% of the 9,100 injuries treated in emergency rooms around this time of year, highlighting the importance of proper firework handling. A significant portion of these injuries, roughly one quarter, are caused by sparklers, which might seem harmless but can reach temperatures of about 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This startling statistic underscores the need for heightened awareness about the dangers associated with fireworks, especially those that appear less threatening. By recognizing the potential hazards and respecting the power of fireworks, we can take significant steps toward reducing the number of injuries and ensuring a safer holiday for everyone.
Here are a few ways to be patriotic without fireworks:
- Use glow sticks!
- Noise makers can help you be loud and proud!
- Enjoy an outdoor movie night (don’t forget the bug spray!)
- Red, white, and blue silly string…fun for all ages!
- Make a patriotic craft with your family.
- Throw a birthday party for America…with plenty of cake!
Leave the fireworks to the professionals and have a safe and happy 4th of July!
